Breast Lift (Mastoplexy)
Procedure - This procedure is a rather common procedure these days. It raises the breasts as well as reshapes them. This enhancement procedure is done with out the aid of implants. Depending on the degree of the sagging, several incisions will have to be made. The greater the sagging generally the more insicsions required. A patient who requires only a little lift will have a periareolar incision, if the sagging is great there are several techniques used, for instance the Anchor incision. This involves three incisions, the first one being around the areola designating a new position for the nipple. The second incision is a vertically running one from the base of the nipple to the bottom of the breast. The last incision is just above the fold of the underside of the breast. Where there is excess skin around these flaps, they will be removed. The nipple is kept intact with the underlying connective tissue, nerves and blood supply thus decreasing the chances of loss of sensation.
Duration - The operation length ranges from two to three and a half hours
Anesthesia - You can have a local or a general Anesthetic
Hospital Stay - Over night stay is required for the procedure.
Removal of stiches - ten days after the surgery.
Scar tissue healing period - twleve to eighteen months.
Risks and side effects - As with any operation the risks of infection and reaction to the anesthesia may occur. Bleeding and scarring are other side effects of the procedure. All of the above mentioned can be prevented and minimized with the utmost care and preparation for the operation.
Physical work/sports can be done - two months later.

Male Breast reduction (Gynecomastia)
Procedure - Durring this procedure a small incisions are made around the areola (nipple) and at a few other sites on the chest. A cannula (which is a small metal tube) is inserted in the areas of incision and used to remove the fat out from the area by sucking it out. Sometimes some glandular tissue will be removed around the boarder of the nipple. The patients nipple is then sewn up with a self dissolving suture material and properly contoured and tightened. In extreme conditions the excess skin may have to be removed. Recovery is normally between two to three weeks, however 1-2 days after surgery you should be on your feet. It is important not to carry out vigorous activities for the first five days after the surgery. You can return to work and resume most normal activities after three weeks and begin exercise after six weeks
Durration - One to three hours
Anesthesia - 1.5 hours
Hospital Stay - Patient may leave the clinic the same day.
Risks and side effects - Risks of male breast reduction are: infection, fluid accumulations, injury to the skin, rippling or bagginess of skin, asymmetry, pigment changes (possibly permanent if exposed to the sun), excessive scarring if tissue was cut away and need for a following procedure to remove addition tissue.

Breast Implants
Procedure - Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a womans breasts. Following the surgery a specific bra must be worn for a week or two. Breast augmentation or breast enlargement (mammoplasty) typically is performed to enlarge small, underdeveloped breasts. It may also be done to balance asymmetry that may result from post mastectomy reconstruction. The implants are inserted through incisions in the nipple or axilla. Breast reconstruction is performed on patients whose breast has been surgically removed due to cancer or other diseases. In these cases the patient usually suffers from depression. Many patients do not know that the reconstruction of their breast is possible with the help of plastic surgery. The reconstruction can be done with prosthesis or with the use of excess fat that has been removed from other parts of the body. In some cases, the costs of the procedure are covered by the state insurance. There are several types of implants from silicone implants to saline filled implants which is techincally a harmless salt water solution.
Some information of the types of implants:
- Texture: the implant shell may be smooth or textured
- Shape: the implant may have a round profile or one that is anatomic (teardrop or tapered shape)
- Profile: the implant may have a low, medium or high projection (the depth of the implant from the base to the highest point of the implant curve)
- Diameter: the width of the implant measured across its base (the side of the implant that will be positioned over the chest wall)
Duration - 1 to 2 hours.
Aesthesia - General Anesthetic.
Hospital Stay - Patient must stay over night at the clinic after the procedure is conducted.
Removal of stiches - 10 days after the surgery.
Scar tissue Healing period - six to twelve months.
Risks and side effects - Capsular contracture is probably the most common side effect that does occur. It is when the scar tissue around the implant contracts and makes the implant feel hard and dense. This can result in either replacement of the implant, removal of the scar tissue around the implant or complete removal of the implant. Lack of implant permanence, including deflation, implant rupture or shifting. Increase or decrease in sensitivity of nipples or breast skin, occasionally permanent. A breast lift can leave you with unevenly positioned nipples and wide scars. Since breast reduction surgery removes most of the milk ducts leading to the nipples, future breast-feeding may not be possible after reduction mammoplasty and contour irregularities may also develop. Others: hematoma, swelling, bleeding, excessive sensitivity. There should be minimal contact with the breast right after the surgery for about 2 weeks.
Physical work/sports can be played - two to six weeks later.

Breast Reduction
Procedure - This procedure is usually decided upon by the patient because the breast are so large that they are causing health problems. These problems include severe back pain, poor posture and sometimes breathing problems. The reduction includes removing breast volume. This is done by making an incision around the areola and making a vertical cut from the nipple down to the crease of the breast. By removing fat from the lower part of the breast we can reduce the volume of the breasts. The breasts may enlarge again in the case of severe weight gain or pregnancy. After the surgery the breasts may remain sensitive for aproximately 2 to 4 weeks. Usually due to the fact that we are reducing the size of the breasts a breast lift is needed to properly place the breasts. This procedure can also be one sided in the case when one breast in larger than the other. It creates symmetry and is esthetically pleasing.
Durration - 2.5 hours
Anesthesia - general anaesthetic
Hospital Stay - The patient should stay in the hospital for one to two days depending on how the procedure went and how the patient feels.
Scar tissue healing period - six to eighteen months.
Risks and side effects -Since breast reduction surgery removes most of the milk ducts leading to the nipples, future breast-feeding may not be possible after reduction mammoplasty and contour irregularities may also develop.
